Holiday Season - Get Drunk in Style

If you are in the mood for fancy drink this holiday season, try some of these recommendations from NY Times:

1) Bohemian Spritz

3 ounces dry white wine
1/2 ounce dry vermouth
1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
1/4 ounce pine liqueur
1 ounce club soda
1 ounce dry sparkling wine
1 slice of grapefruit peel for garnish.

Combine wine, vermouth and liqueurs in a large wineglass filled with ice. Stir to chill, then top with club soda and sparkling wine. Twist grapefruit peel over it and drop into glass.
Yield: 1 drink.

2) Apple Smash

2 large apple slices, like Honeycrisp
2 ounces white rum
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1 dash bitters, like Fee Brothers Barrel-Aged
Cinnamon stick.

Mash an apple slice in the base of a glass with a muddler. Add ingredients other than the cinnamon; shake and strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a whole apple slice dusted with freshly grated cinnamon.
Yield: 1 drink.

Note: To make simple syrup, combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves. Let cool, then transfer to a very clean jar or bottle. Cover and keep refrigerated until ready to use.

3) Chinaski

1 ounce aquavit
1/2 ounce Cynar
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1 teaspoon apricot preserves
Dry sparkling wine
1 thin strip of celery.

Combine aquavit, Cynar, juice, syrup and preserves in a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake. Strain into a champagne flute, top with sparkling wine and garnish with celery, preferably twisted into a corkscrew shape.
Yield: 1 drink.

4) Milk Punch

1/2 cup bourbon
1/2 cup aged rum or brandy
2 cups milk, plus milk frozen into cubes
1/4 cup maple syrup
Grated nutmeg.

Stir the spirits, milk and syrup together in a pitcher. Pour into tumblers over frozen milk cubes or ice cubes and dust the tops with grated nutmeg.
Yield: 4 drinks.

Have Fun....
